About the Event

What is Petember?

Celebrate the impact your pet makes in your life to support kids in need of assistance dogs.

Petember is a fundraiser challenge held during September that encourages you to spend 30 minutes a day quality time with your pet taking part in fun activities all while raising funds for Variety Assistance Dogs.

The funds you raise during Petember will go towards kids on our waiting list in need of a dog to help them live their very best lives.

Follow along with our set themes each week - take PAWt, post pics of your quality time and raise funds right throughout September.

There’s $5,000 in prizes for our fave pics of the week PLUS heaps of rewards to earn!

  • Ask your friends to supPAWt you
  • Take PAWt in our weekly challenges and share on socials
  • Post your pics daily or once a week with a link to your fundraising page for your chance to WIN (the more times you share your page and pics, the more chances you have to WIN!)

How does Petember help kids in need?

Petember raises funds for Variety - the Children's Charity to fund assistance dogs for kids living with Autism or anxiety - one of our highest areas of demand.

Assistance dogs are working animals that are specially trained to help people who are living with disability to manage sensory issues, move around, do everyday activities and tasks, and be more independent.

Selected puppies are trained for around 2 years to become assistance dogs. Puppies are chosen for having a good temperament.

They spend their first year to 18 months living with a volunteer puppy educator before undergoing around 6 months of advanced training specifically tailored to their new owners needs.

Variety - the Children's Charity provides funding for assistance dogs for kids living with disability. Assistance dogs cost up to $40,000 to train and one of Variety's ost in-demand grants.

How does taking part benefit me?

Did you know, even thinking about your pet makes you feel more positive! Just having your pet on your mind boosts your mood!

Spending just 15 - 30 minutes time with your pet has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found that pets can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood.

Whether meeting in the park with you dog friends or happily fielding pats and chats at the local cafe, pets make your more connected with your community.

AND Your pets make you healthier and more active - whether it's getting out and about on walks or PAWsome adventures or playing inside!

When is Petember?

The Petember Challenge runs from 1 - 30 September but stay tuned because we have heaps of great side comps in the lead up and running through to first of October - you can start fundraising anytime to earn treats and rewards.
